Presenting & Video Editing

I have worked as a presenter on camera for a number of projects. This involves me writing the scripts, adapting scripts for broadcast and presenting the content in an engaging and informative manner.

Alongside presenting to the camera I also have extensive knowledge and understanding of video editing and how to cut together film. In the majority of my examples below, I was also operating as the video editor. I have a proficient skill set in the Adobe creative suite and have experience using other software such as Avid Media Composer. Alongside this, I am a trained vision mixer having produced and cut live content on a TV news production for the university.

The projects I have worked on vary from working as part of a team to leading my own projects and being involved in every aspect of the production. Seen below are examples of my work with a description of what the project is and my level of involvement with it.

Wrestling Training TV Package

As a life-long professional wrestling fan, I decided I would attempt professional wrestling and see if I could hang in the ring with the men and women who do this every night. I arranged to take part in a local wrestling schools training and to film the practice. This was a very tough and gruelling piece to put together but was one of the most rewarding and fun experiences. I was acting as the producer, presenter, writer and director for the package. This piece was challenging as I had to adapt to the training and think about what would work well on camera, directing the team operating the camera all while participating in the training. The final product was received very well by both the university and people working in the wrestling industry and was called “professional quality work” by my lecturers and received an 80% as its final grade.

Turning Heel

This mini-documentary was my major project for my fourth year at university. Documenting the start of and the progress since the speaking out movement began in June 2020, this looks at the allegations put forward by numerous men and women in the wrestling industry and the action that is being taken since. It focuses on David Starr the first man accused in the movement and the catalyst for more people to tell their stories. I spoke to one wrestler who told her story about what she has experienced and I later discussed the next steps the industry must take with MP Alex Davies-Jones, the leader of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for wrestling in the UK. I worked independently through all stages of production as the producer, writer and video editor. This piece received high marks and was called “industry standard work”. I am looking to expand this into a longer feature-length documentary that would explore this subject deeper after the completion of my degree.

Cultaholic News Videos

In the summer of 2018, I participated in work experience with the company Cultaholic, a professional wrestling news outlet that creates both written and video content for publication. The linked playlist above contains examples of the short-form news videos that I presented during my tenure there and showcases the improvements I made in a short time span. I wrote and presented the videos myself and collaborated with the head of video production on the edit of the final product.

Plastic Waste TV Package

As part of my third-year newsday assignment, I was tasked with producing a TV news package that focused on a topical story that was original. I decided to focus on plastic waste and plastic-free shopping. I spoke with a local plastic-free business about the new form of shopping and discussed with a manager from Tesco about what big business are doing to reduce plastic waste. I worked independently on this project through all production roles and it was received very well which was reflected in the grade it was given.
